    Among the Arab countries, Lebanon was the first to legislate a copyright law in 1924 besides signing and joining a number of international conventions such as the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, Universal Copyright Convention and the Rome Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations.     This thesis uses the link structure of the World Wide Web as a basis to create better search engines. It focuses on the HITS algorithm, which was the first algorithm to up the link topology. HITS is implemented with slight modifications and tested with variations of its input parameters. It is also used in order to discover emerging communities in cyberspace. Other related algorithms, which use the link structure of the web as an undirected graph are described and compared with HITS.     This thesis uses the HITS algorithm as a basis to propose an interactive internet search engine. With the Web becoming a major source of information for many users, it became a necessity to be able to search the Web efficiently. The main problem resides with broad topic queries. These are queries for which a typical text-based search engine like AltaVista would return thousands of pages.
