Abstract:
Even though there is a strong disagreement in the Lebanese political system
over what precisely leadership is; most agree it remains the basic and key factor in the
quality of performance and effectiveness of Lebanese institutions. It is generally
asserted that the Lebanese government, the private sector's socio-economic
conditions, and education, would improve much under a competent leadership. The
study of leadership is not a mathematical or scientific application of rules and
logarithms, rather it is an art. It is the art of influencing and motivating followers to
achieve common goals that would serve the general well being of the ordinary citizen.
For one thing, the socio-political world isn't nearly as orderly as the scientific world,
since it is not exposed to rigid rules and regulations.
Unfortunately, Lebanon is in great need for educated and competent
leadership. The reality, however, seems like a distant dream. Therefore, the main
focus in this research will be on defining and understanding leadership. Chapter one
will provide an overview defining the nature, qualifications, and values of leadership.
Chapter two will explain the various types of leadership. Actually in this chapter, the
main focus will be on the classical theory of leadership and its application in
Lebanon. Chapter three will explore to the study of power and authority as applied to
leadership. Subsequently chapter Four will entail an analysis of leadership problems
and trends in Lebanon. Last, chapter five entails an overall conclusion of the entire
research.
This research concentrates strictly on the leadership in Lebanon. To perform
such a research I had to examine and rely on various sources and data such as:
-Books and publications,
-Periodicals,
-Newspapers,
-Television interviews and other audio visual programs,
-Internet website sources and articles,
-Special interviews with scholars specialized in the study of business and public
administration as listed in the bibliography.
