Purpose – The topic of this thesis focuses on the Lebanese Construction Industry as it has been lagging in terms of technological advancements in the last few years. The purpose of this thesis is to find out the impact of technological advancements, specifically Building Information Management and Modeling, on the Lebanese Construction Industry, its penetration in the market in Lebanon in comparison to the MENA region, in addition to estimating the payback period of investments in BIM for small and medium engineering consultancy offices. Design/methodology/approach-Philosophic Approach and ...

Background: High prevalence of suboptimal vitamin D status has paralleled the obesity epidemic; thus there has been a growing scientific interest in understanding the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and adiposity. Given the 1) high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in Lebanon 2) lack of evidence on the association between body fat distribution (BFD), particularly direct measures of BFD, and serum vitamin D levels 3) lack of simultaneous control for important confounding variables, including indices of body composition, our study is the first to explore the association between a ...

Geometric measure theory was developed in the second half of the 20th century to manipulate the structure and regularity questions in the calculus of variations. The main goal of this thesis is to introduce the theory of " rectifiability of sets". Rectifiable sets are considered smooth in a certain measure theoretic sense. Rectifiable sets are basic concepts in geometric measure theory. Their theory began with the study and determination of length, area or volume of sets in Euclidean space. Rectifiable sets have many of the desirable properties that smooth sets have. In this thesis, we will ...

Geometric measure theory could be described as differential geometry, generalized through measure theory to deal with maps and surfaces that are not necessarily smooth, and applied to the calculus of variations. Geometric measure theory is important because it studies sets, their variation and their boundaries (from the measure theoretic sense). In particular, a very interesting branch in Geometric measure theory, is the sets of locally finite perimeter. Just as their name actually shows, these sets are essentially sets whose perimeter is (locally) finite. In this thesis we start by giving a ...

With the advancement in computing and wireless technologies, the world has witnessed a growing number of connected devices to the Internet at an unpretending rate. Fog computing emerges as an alternative solution to reduce the burden of Data Centers in traditional Cloud Computing and to support geographically distributed, latency sensitive, and QoS-aware IoT appliations. Fog Computing suggests, that the intelligence should move from the data centers to the edge of network. The main objective of this thesis is to determine the significance and feasibility of implementing a broker node between ...

Purpose: This study investigates whether managers withdraw from a M&A deal once they observe a negative cumulative abnormal return. Moreover, it assesses whether their decision changes with respect to factors such as the listing status of the firm, its macro industry, and target size. Design/methodology/approach: Using a sample of 767 M&A US deals over the period 2005-2014 and applying an Event Study methodology, Cumulative Abnormal Returns (CAR) are calculated and introduced in a Logit model to assess the above mentioned matter. Findings: Results show that managers do listen to the market ...

The tracers L 15N-proline and L(1-13C)-leucine were used to explore the synthesis of skin proteins in vivo in rabbits. They orally received a single dose containing an equimolecular mixture of L(1-13C)-leucine and L15N-proline. The changes in the amounts of these tracers in blood and skin were monitored for a total of 8h. The data showed the appearance of the two tracers in blood within 15min and their clearance in 8h. They were both rapidly (15min) incorporated into skin proteins, but more proline was incorporated than leucine. We therefore consider L 15N -proline to be a better tracer than ...

During recent years, the practice of administering antibiotics to animal feed at sub-therapeutic levels has raised concern with consumers because of the apparent increase of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the human food chain. Researchers have found that probiotics composed of naturally occurring beneficial live microbes such as bacteria (lactobacilli) could be the novel growth promoters. Supplementing poultry diet with probiotics has been found to improve growth performance, feed conversion efficiency, and immune responses, and help in combating enteric pathogens. The aim of this study is ...

Several theorists have contended that belief in a just world may be one way elderly rest home residents cope with anxiety, fear, and depression and thus maintain their well-being. In this study we explored belief in a just world and length of time elderly have been residing in rest homes in Lebanon in relation to their levels of self-rated quality of life. A sample of 354 cognitively able elderly people were selected from 36 nursing homes. Interview questionnaires including a translated and validated Self-beliefs in a Just World Scale (BJW-S; Lipkus, Dalbert, & Siegler, 1996) and the EuroQol ...

Among people who are living in community homes for the aged, a psychological strategy to cope with daily living is belief in a just world. In this study our aim was to determine the relationship between old people’s belief in a just world (BJW) and the activities of daily living (ADL). We selected a sample of 253 cognitively able people aged 60 years and over who were living in a nursing home. We collected data through surveys using a translated and validated Arabic Self-Belief in a Just World Scale and an ADL instrument. ...

This study investigated the attribution of kinship responsibility by drawing on attribution theory of locus and controllability. The analysis draws on the actor versus observer model using income as an intervening variable. A cluster sampling technique resulted in a sample of 935 respondents. Analysis of covariance using gender as a covariate resulted in non-significant main effects. An interaction effect was statistically significant in the high income group who supported the attribution of responsibility of the government and the low and middle income ...
